Epic Games Shuts Down Fortnite Modes and Pulls Horizon Chase Downloads Following Major Layoffs

Epic Games announced a significant restructuring on March 24th, laying off over 1,000 employees as part of a broader cost-cutting initiative. The decision has triggered immediate consequences across the company’s gaming portfolio.

In response to the layoffs, Epic Games confirmed that three Fortnite modes will be permanently discontinued. The publisher did not immediately specify which modes would be affected, though the announcement marks a notable shift in the battle royale’s post-launch content strategy.

The impact extends beyond Fortnite. Aquiris Game Studio, a subsidiary owned by Epic Games, revealed plans to delist downloads for the first two titles in its Horizon Chase arcade racing series later this year. The decision affects the original Horizon Chase and Horizon Chase Turbo, both of which will no longer be available for purchase on digital platforms.

This move represents a broader pattern of companies consolidating their digital offerings amid economic pressures. Players currently holding the games in their libraries will retain access, but new customers will be unable to purchase them through standard channels.

The developments underscore the ongoing challenges facing major publishers as they navigate shifting market conditions and operational expenses. Both the Fortnite mode closures and Horizon Chase delisting are expected to be finalized in the coming months.
